This page features all the projects that HCP has been able to complete
throughout the years since we began our work in 2005 even before we had our 501c3 status, until now. We could not have done this without the loving generosity of our faithful contributors, to whom we are so very thankful! May God richly bless you all!
Our work for The Huggabear Children's Project, Inc. began unofficially (without our 501c3 status) after Hurricane Katrina struck the 9th Ward of New Orleans. We knew we had to do something to help, but we had a newborn baby girl, MaCaedyn, and could not travel, so we decided to find a church that was in need of assistance and helped raise funds for their children's department. Thank you to everyone who gave to assist the Amazing Grace Church of God in New Orleans!
After the work at the Amazing Grace Church in New Orleans was complete, we found another church in need of assistance. This church was called Cornerstone Church and was in the 9th Ward of New Orleans. The pastor and his family moved from another state to go and minister to the people of New Orleans who were suffering so much from Hurricane Katrina. We raised the funds for him to hold a festival for the community to uplift them and bring them some joy and have a moment of celebration. Thank you to those who helped us to help this pastor uplift the people of New Orleans during a time of great trial. God bless you!
When we first began working with Revive A Life Orphanage and it's Director Capt. James Sserunjogi, in the year 2000 he had about 200 children. That number quickly grew through the years to 800 children.
In 2009 the children's schoolhouse collapsed & we took a step of faith to build a new schoolhouse for the children. God moved on the hearts of many contributors to help us and the school was completed in 2013 and we dedicated it to the 20 children killed at Sandy Hook by naming it "The Twenty Angels School of Uganda".
In 2014 God brought us an amazing couple, Lloyd and Dee Dee Wiggins, who committed themselves to improving the entire structure of the orphanage. One of the first projects they completed in 2015 was to install a fresh water well for the children.
Through the donations of the Wiggings Family, the orphanage was able to buy all new beds for the children, including mattresses and mosquito nettings which each child must have for their safety and health.
With the continuous support of the Wiggin's Family, a brand-new dormitory was built for the orphans to separately house the boys and the girls. In addition, they added to every building, electricity because all we were able to provide the orphans previously was a generator for light at night.
The Wiggins' loving funds also built new bathrooms with toilets instead of outdoor latrines and showers with clean water. Before, the children had to wash from bowls filled with cold water that came from a garden hose.
In addition to all the other blessed projects, the Wiggins sent funds to build a Medical Center for the orphans as well as the funding to pay for the staff who cared for the orphans and taught them in school!
Another one of the projects the Wiggins gave to transform the orphanage was to build a covered dining area for the children because they normally just sat outside. During the rainy season and at night, this made eating quite challenging.
The Wiggins also gave for many safety features for the orphanage: fire extinguishers, lightning rods, and a security fence around the entire property to keep intruders and the witch doctors, yes, the witch doctors, from taking the children.
Named for and done in the memory of Angelique's grandmother, Reba G. Lafon, who was from Huntington, West Virgina, this project sent funds to a wonderful pastor who would drive into the backwoods of the Appalachian Mountains to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ, clothing, shoes, books and toys to the children of this American region where 16% of these West Virginia citizens in poverty. Sadly, when we came upon this pastor's ministry, he was at the end of it and retired not long after we began sending funds to assist him. We have not come into contact with anyone in the area doing what he did, but it is a project that we would like to revisit should we find a trustworthy person to work with in the future.
In May 2024, we had the tragic news brought to us that our faithful friend and gracious Huggabear contributor, Simon Grozav, had passed away from ALS. Simon had given for so many different Huggabear projects through the years and blessed so many children with us and touched countless lives with his own ministry that we wanted to do a special project in his name. When we saw the condition of the kitchen that the orphanage of Paul Kiregeya was in, we wanted to build them a new one. Since Simon was an amazing chef and cooked constantly for those in his family's Senior Care Facility, we thought that would be the perfect project. After Simon's Celebration of Life service, his lovely wife, Shanell, asked for donations to HCP for the project in lieu of flowers. The donations came pouring in, and there was enough to build two wood-burning ovens, build new cabinets, buy all new plates, cups, cutlery,, and cookware and give the kitchen a bright, beautiful, fresh coat of paint. The children and people of the orphanage are so thankful and we are so thankful to everyone who helped bring this dream to reality and complete this project in Simon's name. He will never be forgotten. Thank you to everyone who gave for it. May God bless you all richly and may God continue to bless the entire Grozav Family. Please see photos of the kitchen below.
In this video you will see what Paul Kiregeye and the widows who cook and care for the orphans were using as a kitchen to prepare food for all the children and themselves.
In this video, Paul and all of the children express their heart felt thanks to all those who gave so generously to build their brand new kitchen. They are thrilled to have something brand new and so blessed to know that their needs have not been forgotten. Thank you to everyone who gave so freely to bless these precious lives in need. May God bless you richly in return!
